Odisha FC falls short in a 2-3 loss to Chennaiyin FC at Kalinga Stadium

Bhubaneswar : Odisha FC kicked off their ISL season with a narrow 2-3 defeat to Chennaiyin FC at Kalinga Stadium on Saturday. The goals for Odisha FC were scored by Diego Maurício (9′) and Roy Krishna (90+5′), while Farukh Choudhary (48′, 51′) and Daniel Chima (69′) found the net for Chennaiyin FC.

In the 9th minute of the match, Diego delivered the first goal of the season to the Kalinga Warriors, as Diego Maurício converted the penalty with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. OFC 1-0 CFC.

In the 31st minute, Amey sent a brilliant cross from the left flank, and Hugo aimed a powerful header, but Samik made a vital save for the Supermachans.

Chennaiyin FC equalized in the 48th minute when Farukh Choudhary scored with a right-footed shot from close range into the top left corner. OFC 1-1 CFC.

In the 51st minute, Farukh Choudhary put Chennaiyin FC ahead with a left-footed shot from the center of the box into the top left corner. OFC 1-2 CFC.

In the 65th minute, Hugo maneuvered past defenders inside the box and took a shot, but Samik was there to make the save.

In the 69th minute, Chennaiyin FC extended their lead to 3-1 as Daniel Chima scored with a right-footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom right corner.

In the 5th minute of added time, the Kalinga Warriors scored as Roy Krishna netted with a right-footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom left corner, with an assist from Hugo Boumous. OFC 2-3 CFC.

Odisha FC will travel to Delhi to take on Punjab FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on September 20, 2024, with a 7.30 PM scheduled kickoff.
