TEAM ODISHA’S HISTORIC PERFORMANCE IN PANCHKULA


Bhubaneswar : Athletes from Odisha have delivered a historic performance at the 63rd National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships 2024 held in Panchkula from 26th to 30th June. Athletes in various track and field events have together secured a total of 9 medals including 3 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals, marking the state’s best performance in the championship’s history. All the athletes have received training in the Athletics High Performance Centres. Javelin athlete Vikrant Mallik has bagged silver with a throw of 81.74 metres while Asian Games medallist Kishore Jena settled for a bronze with a throw of 80.84 metres.

Sprinter Animesh Kujur has bagged 2 medals, a gold in the men’s 200m event and a silver in the men’s 100m event. Apart from this, he has created a new meet record in the championship with a timing of 20.65 secs in men’s 200m event. HPC cadet Pragyan Prashanti Sahu has also created a record for Odisha in the women’s 100m hurdles event with a timing of 13.15 secs.

Sprinter Srabani Nanda has struck gold in the women’s 200 m event, while HPC athlete Ramandeep Kaur has bagged a silver in the 400m hurdles event. Jasbir Nayak has won a silver medal in the Decathlon event. While Srabani Nanda, Sukhi Baskey, Manisha Merel and Merymukta Soren have together settled for a bronze in the women’s 4×100 relay event, the men’s team comprising of Amiya Mallick, Animesh Kujur, D Jayaram and Aryan Ekka has struck gold in the men’s 4×100 relay race.
